'I Just Want to Do What I Love to Do' Jaromir Jagr Provides Update on Future of Career

Jaromir Jagr just won’t quit, and boy, are we grateful for that.
Before the puck dropped for a historical Game 4 of the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals, a certain hockey legend sat behind the desk with the NHL on TNT crew. Jaromir Jagr, who won two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins and was an NHL All-Star a whopping eight times, joined the panel of analysts to discuss his past in hockey, as well as his future.
Jagr has never been one to firmly say he was done with hockey. However, it was heavily implied throughout the past season in the Czech Extraliga that it might be time for him to hang up his skates. Furthering the assumption was a big move made in January, selling his hometown team, Rytíři Kladno (the Kladno Knights, as we call them stateside), maintaining only a 20% stake in the franchise.
It was believed that the transaction would signify the end of something special, and his last game with Kladno a final salute on a career well spent. Well, following his time in the booth, it seems that he may be sticking around.
“I said it might be my last year–I’m not sure about it”, Jagr said Thursday evening. “I still love the game, I love to practice, I don’t want to get fat…I sold the team I play for. I kept only 20 percent, so there’s no pressure. I just want to do what I love to do.”
It is no secret that Jagr’s abilities have declined in the past decade, but there is still something to be said about his play at age 53. In the past season, he averaged 0.41 points per game. That is honestly not too shabby when compared to the PPG average of 0.51 Gordie Howe put up in his final season, when he was well over a year younger.
In his career, Jagr established himself as the greatest European player in the NHL’s 108-year history. With 1,921 career points, he is only behind Canada’s own, Wayne Gretzky, in the record books.
Whether Jagr continues the legend next season or decides to wrap it up is a mystery, but there is at least a strong interest to remain on the ice for Czechia’s favorite right winger.
